ΑΥΤ ΚAIC Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΑΥΓ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. ϹΤΡΑ Τ ΝΟΥΜ ϹЄΛЄΥΚΟΥ ΚΥΖΙΚΗΝΩΝ / Ν-Є/Ω-Κ/Ο-Ρ Tyche standing front, head to left, holding rudder in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left. RPC VII.1 online 11.1. SNG Paris 835. Very rare. A bold and attractive issue struck on an unusually heavy flan. Minor deposits and with light cleaning scratches, otherwise, very fine.


It is remarkable to still find Seleukid names in Asia Minor in the 3rd century AD, more than four centuries after the collapse of Seleukid rule in the region. Our T. Num. Seleukos is the last bearer of this illustrious name attested on coins, however, magistrates named Antiochos occur on issues of Severus Alexander from Nysa, and of coins of Gordian III from Magnesia ad Maeandrum.
